MiddCOREplus Internships

MiddCOREplus is a summer program that combines project-based internships with weekly skill-building workshops. The internship program is open to Middlebury students who have completed the four-week MiddCORE Immersion program. MiddCOREplus provides an opportunity for students to collaborate with partner for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.  The partner organization provides a project and mentorship for the student while MiddCORE offers a framework for reflection, skill building and support.

The Importance of Mentors

We carefully select internship sponsors for their willingness and ability to work collaboratively with our students. Projects are designed to provide value and meaning to both the partner organization and the student.

MiddCORE collaborates with the partnering organization to develop the project, identify realistic deliverables for a ten-week period, and discuss specific formal and informal ways to mentor the student during the project.  When selecting internships, we value the mentor’s ability to meet and engage with the student as much as the quality of the project.

The Experience

Students spend 30 hours per week at their respective organizations.  Each Friday we design an experiential workshop that encourages the students’ personal skill development.  Certain sessions connect to their project, while other sessions raise a consciousness about certain skills or mindsets they might encounter later in life.  Some capacities we focus on include story-making, design thinking, emotional intelligence, financial literacy, visual communication and improvisation.
